if you write a post against lifting and it sounds like a cop wrote it, delete it.

#tip from someone who’s worked retail #the whole ‘shoplifting costs ppl their hours’ thing is a lie #a bold face lie to pit working class ppl against each other #companies all build shrinkage into their profit margins #meaning they count on a substantial amount of merchandise being stolen or broken #lifting hardly puts a dent in it #if that company cuts its employees hours #it literally has nothing to do with shrinkage #and everything to do with them not wanting to pay full time benefits

SOME companies will be better than others. SOME companies put a reasonable shrinkage allotment aside. SOME companies are not as strict about lifting of shortages. SOME companies cut other things before employees or hours. SOME companies also treat their employees well and give them livable wages. SOME companies do a lot of things. There is no one universal company policy about this kind of thing so unless you’re going to research what companies you decide to steal from, just fucking buy shit. Enough shrink and workers WILL get fired to make up for it. There is an set allotment for shrink int he budget but anything over that needs to come out from somewhere (and the amount set aside usually isn’t very realistic). It doesn’t matter if they can afford it these are people who believe they deserve 50 million dollar bonuses while their bottom rung of employees should stop complaining about a wage that won’t even let them buy a one bedroom apartment by themselves in the shittiest part of town.

This also doesn’t change the fact that I, personally, me, I get in trouble and written up when things are found stolen on my shift. This is a personal mark against -me- because you can’t spend two bucks on a fucking candy bar or at least have the decency to take the packaging out with you so no one finds it later. Shop lifting is not sticking it to the man it doesn’t even effect the company. The only person held accountable for your theft is the person who failed to stop you. If I become a worker that lets people get away with theft all the time I am no longer an asset and liable to be let go.

So yes it IS pitting working class people against each other, but it’s not imaginary. Even with welfare slashing there’s still an abundance of options to go through before you start lifting things you need, and I mean things you NEED because there is no excuse for stealing TVs and Ipods and candy bars. If you honestly expect me to put my employment and livelihood on the line so you can have a tube of fucking lipstick you’ve got another thing coming.

#How can you honestly beleive that you can just sit there and steal shit and not expect SOMEONE to have to pay for it #Someone always pays for it #A company will get their money back

This shit INFURIATES ME

I’ve been working retail for over five years, in a high-theft department, and I’ve seen first hand the effects of theft and fraud on the lowest rungs of the cooperate ladder. And I work for one of those BIG companies you’d expect to treat their employees ethically, right? Wrong. We lose money, we don’t make sales due to theft or fraud, We Lose Hours. Companies will always cut their losses at the lowest level possible, and it will always be the resources they care the least about.

Stop justifying theft like it makes you an edgy anarchist.
If you take without paying, someone is going to, and i guarantee you it isn’t going to be Corporate Man Fat Cats at the top of the ladder.

You’re not sticking it to the man, you’re directly damaging someone else’s livelihood with your false sense of entitlement and childish rebellion. Want to know what our biggest area of loss is? Not food, not baby formula, not life necessities or other things you’d expect the impoverished underprivileged to steal, but cosmetics. And the thousands of dollars of theft committed against us in fraudulent returns, fake coupons, shit that’s stolen with the intent to resell it.

You’re not Robin Hood.

You’re not robin hood, you’re robbin’ the hood. It’s as simple as that. As stated earlier, the people who pay for this shit are the people at the bottom of the ladder. Enough theft and people will get cut hours. More, and they’ll get fired. And this is coming from someone who works in a company that supposedly accounts for shrink.
